Downtime Cafe serves up some of the most delicious warming comfort food in Bali. We have a large menu with choices enough to please almost everyone.
We have highlighted some of our signature dishes that we are especially proud of.
Butter Shrimp Spaghetti
Did you know that the best spaghetti in Bali was not originally a spaghetti dish?
A Vietnamese immigrant family in San Francisco created their famous garlic noodles back in the 1980s. The dish was neither Vietnamese, nor was it American, but it caught on like crazy.
We did a lot of research in our kitchen in order to reverse-engineer their famous secret recipe. It took us a while, but we finally cracked it!
We’re happy to present to you the Butter Shrimp Spaghetti. It’s our version of the legendary San Francisco treat, and we think it really is the best spaghetti in Bali.
West Coast Burger
“Your West Coast Burger is the best burger in Bali!” We are really happy to hear our customers say that, but to be honest we have to give credit where credit is due.
In truth the West Coast Burger we modeled after one of Los Angeles’ best burgers. One day, we were craving an In-n-Out burger but sadly they are unlikely to open an outlet in Bali anytime soon. So we took it upon ourselves to head into the kitchen to research and reverse-engineer those iconic Southern California burgers right here.
It took quite a bit of trial and error, but eventually we created a recipe that worked really well! That’s how the West Coast Burger came to be the best burger in Bali.
Chicken and Waffles
The best chicken and waffles in Bali is our combination of sweet and salty, soft and crunchy, and the surprisingly great combination of waffles, maple syrup and fried chicken.
Fried chicken and waffles as a dish likely originated in Harlem, New York, before coming to Los Angeles and becoming a Southern California fixture.
Downtime’s Chicken and Waffles consists of our seasoned crispy battered chicken thighs, paired with our famous soft and crispy waffles.
It feels like a piece of California in a plate. Truly the best chicken and waffles in Bali.
Confit Chicken Salad
The Confit Chicken Salad is more than just a salad. Our Confit Chicken Salad is a complete meal.
We take garlic and herb-infused chicken quarters and cook them low and slow for hours. We add fresh lettuce and herbs with our own special dressing to make up the salad that it is served in, along with slow-cooked potatoes.
Want to experience the best salad in Bali? Look no further than the Confit Chicken Salad!
Making the best fries in Bali takes a little bit of patience. You see, if you wanted to order some of our Belgian fries today, it means that we would have had to start making it yesterday morning.
We cut each of those fries by hand, then they are par-boiled and then pre-fried before putting them into the freezer overnight. When we get an order, we grab these freeze-dried fries and toss them into the fryer. This is the only way you are going to get a crisp outer crust, and a meltingly soft interior.
Along with your order of fries you also get your choice of dipping sauces, which we also make from scratch starting from our own hand-made mayonnaise:
- Chili Mayo
- Wasabi Mayo
- Garlic Mayo
- Herb Remoulade
- Honey Mustard
- Curry Ketchup
- Umami Mayo
Looking for hands-down, the best sandwich?
The best sandwich in our opinion is the Shrimp Po’Boy, from the folks in New Orleans. You get an amazing sandwich of overflowing crispy battered shrimp, lettuce, vegetables, stuffed inside of a French roll along with our own remoulade sauce.
The rich flavors and contrasting textures from the batter, the shrimp, the vegetables, and the crusty soft bread truly makes the Shrimp Po’ Boy the best sandwich ever!
Garlic Chicken Wings
Looking for the best wings in Bali? Congratulations, you’ve found them right here! Our recipe for the best wings ever, originates from the city of Hat Yai, Thailand.
Our Garlic Chicken Wings are marinated overnight in a Thai-style blend of garlic, coriander, lemongrass, and other spices, which allows all those flavors to soak in deep into the wings. When they are fried, the outer skin turns crispy red, while the inside remain moist and flavorful.
Don’t bother looking anywhere but here for the best wings in Bali!
Huevos con Ajos
One of the best breakfast dishes is called Huevos con Ajos or “eggs with garlic” in Spanish. This delicious dish originates from the southern coast of Malaga in Spain, but has many variations as each household has its own way to make this homey dish. The dish is essentially eggs fried in garlic and olive oil until they develop a crispy golden crust. We serve the eggs with some slow-cooked confit potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and tomatoes. The final result is truly amazing, and is vegetarian-friendly too!
The Bananas Foster is a classic dessert from New Orleans, consisting of bananas in a caramel sauce served over vanilla ice cream.
In our version, we use local bananas, caramelized palm sugar, cinnamon, and a splash of local tangerine juice for some brightness.
Have you tried our Bananas Foster? If you haven’t, you owe it to yourselves to try one of the best desserts in Bali!
Espresso Crème Caramel
Our Espresso Crème Caramel, sometimes called “flan” in Spanish-speaking countries, is a true crème caramel.
What do we mean by true? We make our crème caramel the traditional way. It consists of milk, sugar, eggs, and coffee for flavor, and it is slow-cooked in a bain-marie in order to get that silky-smooth texture.
You cannot get that smooth texture if you take shortcuts by using gelatin or agar-agar to make your custard.
Don’t accept shortcuts. Try the only true Espresso Crème Caramel.
