Our journey began when the founders moved to Bali from Jakarta in 2016. As passionate board gamers, they immediately sought out the local board game community, only to find that one didn’t exist. Driven by a desire to share their love for the hobby, they decided to build a community from the ground up.
They started hosting weekly board game meetups every Wednesday evening, carrying their collection of games in a backpack to various coffee shops around the island. While exploring potential venues, they encountered numerous challenges: finding places with good food but poor lighting, ample space but no air conditioning, or simply tables too small for games. It became clear that a dedicated, purpose-built space was needed to truly foster the community they envisioned.
Recognizing this gap, the idea for Downtime Cafe was born. On May 16, 2018, we proudly opened our doors as Bali’s very first board game cafe.
At Downtime Cafe, our mission is to provide a comfortable and inviting space where both seasoned gamers and curious newcomers can discover and enjoy the vast world of board games. But we’re not just about games; we’re also passionate about introducing the people of Bali to an assortment of delicious foods, drawing inspiration from diverse culinary traditions around the world.
We invite you to step into Downtime Cafe – whether you’re looking to play a game from our extensive library, enjoy a fantastic meal, or simply connect with friends in a relaxed setting. Come experience the fun, food, and community that define us.
